Herpes is the name of a group of viruses that cause painful blisters and sores.  Whether or not there is a cure for herpes is the first thing on people’s minds when they hear they have been diagnosed.  The first outbreak of herpes is the worst, and it can last for 2 to 3 weeks. Symptoms may last a few weeks and go away.  Symptoms of a genital herpes outbreak include: itching or burning feeling in the genital or anal area, pain in the legs, buttocks, or genital area.  You may run a fever and have other flu-like symptoms.  Millions of people do not know they have herpes because they never had, or noticed, the herpes symptoms.

Treatment

Treatment for genital herpes only ensures rapid healing of the eruptions and decreases the chances of viral shedding.  Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health professional before starting any new treatment or making any changes to existing treatment.  It might take 20 years or more before over the counter treatment for herpes  are developed for human treatment, but it’s still a wonderful thing to look forward to.

Herpes is one of the most common viral infections in the United States.  Genital herpes is common, affecting both men and women.  Having genital herpes is no reason to avoid sex or give up on relationships though.
