Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection (STI), which has existed for thousands of years.  Genital herpes can double your risk for contracting HIV.  There is only one way you or anyone can become infected with genital herpes and that’s through direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected individual.  Using condoms consistently will help you avoid getting or spreading genital herpes.

Symptoms

Symptoms may last a few weeks and go away.  Symptoms of a genital herpes outbreak include: itching or burning feeling in the genital or anal area, pain in the legs, buttocks, or genital area.  You may run a fever and have other flu-like symptoms.  Millions of people do not know they have herpes because they never had, or noticed, the herpes symptoms.

Treatment

Treatment for genital herpes only ensures rapid healing of the eruptions and decreases the chances of viral shedding.  Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health professional before starting any new treatment or making any changes to existing treatment.  It might take 20 years or more before over the counter treatment for herpes  are developed for human treatment, but it’s still a wonderful thing to look forward to.

Herpes is one of the most common viral infections in the United States.  Genital herpes is common, affecting both men and women.  Having genital herpes is no reason to avoid sex or give up on relationships though.

Millions of people are becoming infected with sexually transmitted diseases each year, also know as STDs. If you or your partner have had unprotected sex then you maybe at risk for an STD, also known as a sexually transmitted disease. STD testing includes STDs such as Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes, HIV, and more. HIV STD testing determines if you or your sexual partner have been infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, otherwise known as HIV. Several HIV tests are used to check whether you have a recent HIV STD infection or one that happened after six months ago.
